Exeter Library. The Pocknell collection of shorthand books.

Exeter Library. Pocknell Collection of shorthand books. Test listing.

Note: This listing is generated from an Excel spreadsheet which is in the course of development prior to the implementation of an on-line catalogue to cover all the heritage collections in Exeter Library. There are currently separate listings in a range of formats for the different collections. Edward Pocknell was a professional shorthand writer and deviser of the Legible Shorthand system. He worked for many years in London and was president of the Shorthand Society. He retired to Exeter and bequeathed his collection of books to Exeter City Library in 1894. The catalogue is arranged by author but it is possible to use the "Find" function to search by keyword for authors, titles, or publishers. It also includes entries for items recorded in the 1901 printed catalogue which were probably lost in the 1942 blitz.
